A merchant navy or merchant marine or mercantile marine is the fleet of merchant vessels that are registered in a specific country. On merchant vessels, seafarers of various ranks and sometimes members of maritime trade unions are required by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) to carry Merchant Mariner’s Documents.
The Indian Merchant Navy comprises of a large number of ships, Bulk Carriers, Tankers, Passengers Ships etc. The Shipping Industry offers the crew lucrative wages for operating and maintaining ships. Hence, there is a need to equip the crew with theoretical knowledge and practical skill to effectively contribute to the shipping establishment.
Marina Academy of Maritime Research Centre & Charitable Trust, a maritime institute formed under the Mumbai Trust Act of the same name, has been established in beautiful and serene location.
